PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

A busy week for all, the raffle is doing reasonably well considering the cooler weather, with over $4,000 banked so far, taking just under $100/hr and we even have a marquee this next weekend. The main item from the Board meeting was the decision to put money aside for any future contingencies and to keep topping it up with about 20% of our fund raising. Our donations are to be more targeted especially ensuring it has our Club Rotary branding acknowledged, to raise our Club local profile to encourage membership.
Excellent discussions at last week’s meeting, great to see Doug back and to have two visiting Rotarians join us. This week we resume having a chairperson, Katrina being the first, and we will also have a speaker, Briony Hutton, invited by Ken when he sold her raffle tickets.
For the DG’s visit on the 3rd August we are looking to have it catered by former member Robyn Cross of Tilly’s of Tyabb fame so I need final numbers for that event. Also any time any one is bringing guests, please let me know.
Dick

Rob Cook’s Induction evening

Rob Cook was inducted into Somerville Tyabb RC last Wednesday by DG Paul Mee in front of about thirty club members, partners and guests. Guests included DG Paul Mee and Adele, AG Peter Rawlings, PDG Mark Humphries and DGE Linda, PDG Tim and Jane Moore and Karina Webb, PE Carolyn Such and Janet Ritchie (Mt Eliza RC). Several potential members, Phil and Madelyn Palmer, John Crowder and Geoff Raukawa also joined us. Our own PDG James Webb introduced the night and provided a short history of Rotary then DG Paul led the toast to Rotary International and described RI’s success with nearly eliminating polio. After dinner, Pres. Dick presented (in absentia) Shirley Parrott with a certificate of thanks for St Andrew’s Church Op Shop and others raising enough money for seven wheelchairs. DG Paul inducted Rob after outlining his considerable involvement in Rotaract. Rob is the District Youth Program Director and will take on this role with the new D9815. He is the resident expert “in things digital” and was described as being “a wonderful Rotarian” with “unbelievable commitment”. Paul finished by inviting Rob to join and strengthen the work of this club and community through his participation and contribution to STRC. In his reply Rob outlined his time in Rotaract beginning in February, 2016. While attending the District Conference in Wangaratta he was inspired to become more involved. He soon took on leadership roles culminating in becoming Youth Chair for D9820. He loves the youth programs and has visited many of the clubs as part of this role. We are indeed fortunate to gain Rob as a member. He likes the friendly and relaxed style of STRC, the food is good, and he looks forward to doing projects together. Pres Dick concluded the proceedings with thanks then AG Peter Rawlings thanked the club for our help with the District Conference and was encouraged to see the growth of STRC. He also reported that the Peninsula Trail is close to fruition and he congratulated Chris and Carolyn Such on raising $55,000 from our Cluster for Interplast.
