PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Last week’s meeting was a very memorable partners and guests night
for Rob Cook’s induction, a night where visiting Rotarians matched our
own members in attendance!! It was probably fortunate that 6 of our
members were unable to attend due to grandparenting duties, overseas,
anniversaries, etc. as we discovered the capacity of our usual meeting
room (36). Rob’s guests from the 9820 District Leadership team (what
does one call a group of past, present and future DGs?) really heaped
praise on our new member and from the evidence of what we have seen
of Rob so far, much deserved. My thanks to DG Paul for inducting
Rob into our Club.
I took great pleasure on the night of passing on a Certificate of Appre-
ciation from Wheelchairs For Kids for St. Andrew’s Church Op.
Shop’s fantastic contribution of $1750, to their representative in attend-
ance (Graeme). A fabulous program by the Rotary Club of Scar-
borough, WA, which our Club has been supporting for 11years. We
collect rugs and soft toys from retirement villages, community houses,
etc and ‘ship’ them over to Perth.
Our Trailer raffle is going well (see separate email for roster) with
average ‘takings’ of just under $100/hour, Melbourne weather does
strange things to people. One expects to do better on a cooler day but I
think the change of 35 degrees to 17 was too much and kept people
indoors with the latter and into the cool supermarket with the former.
Selling outside we certainly appreciated the cool blast when the doors
opened!
Hopefully Ken will have recovered from his ‘good Samaritan’ act by
Wednesday to give us all a ‘lesson’ in ClubRunner. We shall undoubt-
ably hear a much embellished story then, but what a way to get out of
selling raffle tickets! Thank you, David, for stepping in so quickly.
